Every month of the year has its own “theme”. January is beginning. April is freshness. July is excitement. December is festive. November is gratitude.

November gratitude covers Veterans Day with its somber reflections and appreciation for service. November also looks back on the fall season with a recognition of closure and anticipation of what’s ahead. November, of course, also features Thanksgiving, almost a forgotten holiday, nestled between the epic celebrations of Halloween and Christmas.

Thanksgiving should never be forgotten. Thanksgiving is about family, traditions, early night falls, brisk mornings, the crunch of leaves and the smell of pumpkins. Thanksgiving is quiet thoughts about the past, football games watched with cousins, aunts and uncles. Thanksgiving is early Christmas list making, turkey sandwiches and cranberries. Thanksgiving is peaceful, prayerful and personal.

November is a special month that makes us grateful, humble and human. Don’t you just love it?
